Easter Sunday

The girls were so excited about Easter so I was trying to stay in good spirits. I was starting to feel a bit lonely as we headed into another holiday without extended family and traditions. We were so used to having multiple egg hunts, parties, trips to Disneyland, trips to Irvine Regional Park, and trips to the mall to see the Easter Bunny. Easter morning was usually spent with our large extended family. It felt strange and empty not having these things but I do feel (or maybe I am just telling myself) that it is nice to have the one year to do all of the things there is never enough time to do. We have done a zillion crafts, baked, stayed in our PJS, watched a marathon of Easter movies, and we have never felt rushed. It is still just weird but I am determined to make the best of it. I also realized that given the current situation we are in, we are incredibly blessed and I am so grateful for all the our gifts on this Easter morning.

Our day started EARLY. I begged the girls not to wake us before 7 am, but they burst in around 6:40 am. I don't know how two people who used love to sleep in created two little chipper morning people but somehow we did. We all ran downstairs in our Easter pajamas (I sported my bunny PJS most of the day.) The bunny had once again left foot prints up the hallway. The girls were thrilled with their Easter baskets, the bunny always gives them a new swim suit and cover up for summer. Although this year summer seems a million miles away.

As always, the girls took their hunt seriously and spent a lot of time searching for eggs. The Easter Bunny was pretty smart this year and included Amazon points in the eggs instead of candy so they could order something on line for themselves. Fortunately I was able to see the magic code on the back :)

Breakfast was wonderful. I cannot cook to save my life, but pancakes are my thing. I was excited to try bunny back pancakes this year. So easy to do and they were a big success! Daddy had ordered some champagne to be delivered the day before which was a welcome treat.

After breakfast, I realized that we really had nothing to do until dinner and it was pouring outside. It seemed like it rained everywhere this Easter. I don't think it has ever rained on Easter here but it seemed fitting that it rained non stop the whole day. Since we had finished every conceivable craft and board game this week, we watched the movie Hop. Wow compared to other big holidays like Christmas, Halloween, and even Valentines Day, there is a really limited selection of Easter movies. I think we watched everyone we could find and that was a grand total of 4. The Easter Bunny Is Coming To Town was probably the best but the competition is a shallow pool.

Daddy did curbside pick up for dinner. Much to the shock of my family, I showered, did my hair and make up and actually put on a dress. We sat at the table in our Easter clothes and enjoyed a decent meal.

After dinner, the girls created an egg hunt for the parents. They filled eggs with their candy and nice little notes. I choked up a little bit reading their kind words.

Lisey was finally ready to launch her Easter party. She had been decorating her room for days. We danced before bed and closed our day out with The Easter Story. Today was a blessing in a strange and sweet way. I am not a mushy person but today hit all the feels.
