When I first started our themes, I loved the idea of having Favorite Fridays. For our first Favorite Friday, we chose our favorite book series- Pinkalicious. We have at least a dozen of her books and there are probably three dozen more available. A friend gave us the original book and at first I thought it was a series about a bratty little girl. But, over the years, her books have become about so much more to us. The Pinkalicious books are cheerful adventures about being true to yourself, being brave, and being creative.
The night before, our girls put on their pinkest pajamas and laid out their pinkest outfits for the next day. I even laid out the one pink sweater I own. We of course made pink cupcakes before going to bed. Lately the girls have been helping me with the the set up, but since I am close to completing my 30 themes in 30 days, I wanted to surprise them with something elaborate. I found everything pink from every party we had ever done. It couldn't have been any pinker if I had sprayed the house down with Pepto Bismo. In addition to the pink set up, I paid a little tribute to each of the main Licious books. The Unicorn from Goldilcious, the painting easel from Purplicious, the tooth fairy from Silverlicious, the merminnie from Aqualicious, and an Emerald covered trashcan for Emerlicious.
The girls were excited to start the day. We made pink pancakes (you have to add so much food coloring to pancakes for the color to show when you cook them. I was genuinely concerned I was going to literally turn their teeth pink, oh the irony!) During breakfast we listened to Pinkalicious the Musical Soundtrack. We saw the musical last year and bought the CD after seeing the show. If you are not already a fan of Pinkalicious all I can say is that the soundtrack will likely be an acquired taste.
Our Pinkalicious snacks included: pink party goods that made their way into our third theme, raspberries, strawberries, watermelon, pink lemonade, raspberry Jello, pink Easter eggs, and pink M&Ms I pulled out of our left over Easter candy. There are tons of other pink snack ideas that we didn't have on hand- pink cream cheese, pink gold fish crackers, and pink ice cream to name a few.
We had a lot of Pinkalicious activities planned for the day! Major props to PBS and the Pinkalious team for creating this fabulous resource website! The link can be found below. It is full of games, episodes, activities, projects, and even lesson plans. You could have a Pinkalicious month! www.thinkpinkalicious.com It was a Friday, so we had lots of time in the afternoon after we finished school work. We watched an episode. Then they blew through many of the handouts including coloring Goldilicious, decorating your own cupcake, word searches, mazes, and story writing.
Purplicious is my favorite of the books. I like the message about loving a color that makes you happy, even if no one else loves it. It is also a sweet tale about finding a friend who likes you for being you. Just like in book, I drew a big cake that Avery painted blue, Elise added the pink to make Purplicious. I found a great handout on the resource site about mixing paints, so we did some paint mixing and the girls finished up painting the last few blank canvases we had in the craft cabinets.
Dinner consisted of mostly green foods. Like in the book, we needed it it to counteract all of that pink :) ! We read of a few of our favorite Pinkalicious books and had a PInakastic Slumber Party. It was a Pinkatastic Day!
