I wanted today to be fun but hoped to also make it educational. I have been trying to find ways to extend their education about COVID-19, how germs spread, why we need to be better about washing our hands & not touching our face without terrorizing them further. I tend to “overshare.” I also wanted to do something small to honor all of the hard-working healthcare professionals on the front lines every day. So Doc McStuffins to the rescue!
We started the day by dressing in our best Doctor gear. We had a Doc McStuffins costume and a lab coat in our costume collection. Santa brought Avery a cool doctor’s kit for Christmas last year, so we got that out as well. I have a pair of old work scrubs I use as pajamas, so I found a justification to be in scrubs today!
For every theme, I have them go to the library (their bookcase) and check out as many books on the subject as they can find. They brought down their Doc McStuffins books and a few books on the human body.
In addition to our regular school today, here are some activities we did for McStuffins Monday:
-Read a basic children’s book on the human body and how it works.
-Read a Doc McStuffins story. We love the 5 minute stories(they are actually more like 10-15 stories) , we have a couple of these books. They have been good travel companions. You get to bring 10 books in one.

-We played the “Don’t Touch Your Face Game” The goal is to have the lowest point score at the end of the day. You can catch another family member and give them a point. They love to catch Mommy and I lost big time.
-We wrote a thank you letter to our pediatrician to thank her for helping keep everyone safe.
- Watched a fantastic kid friendly video on germs and coronavirus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5-dI74zxPg&t=537s
- We set up a doctor’s office in the living room and gave our stuffed animals and dolls well exams because it is Time for Your Check-Up!
-Watched an episode of Doc McStuffins.
