"I want to be where the people are

I want to see

want to see them dancing

Walking around on those

Whadd'ya call'em oh-feet"- Ariel

Yes!! Me too Ariel! Me too! Mermaid Monday was another one of those themes that had to be done. The girls like most girls their age are super into mermaids. Avery's 4th birthday was a Little Mermaid theme and I of course I still had some leftover party supplies for decorations. I still cannot get over how many party supplies I had stuffed in my cabinet!

The night before, we easily converted much of our Sea Life Sunday display into Mermaid Monday fully equipped with sea weed and additional sea life decor. We gathered our Little Mermaid figurines and decorations from their mermaid bathroom. We then created a Little Mermaid scene using an old fish bowl as one of our main decorations. They really wanted to wear their mermaid tails the next day but they can't really get around in them so we used them as decorations.

The girls began the day by getting into mermaid gear. I was surprised they choose their mermaid short outfits over costumes today. Next, we checked out multiple Mermaid Books from our "library." The most appropriate was Mermaid School and after breakfast we kicked off our day by reading it together and picking out our mermaid names. They love it when I get into character as their teacher and ask them to swim over here or that I need to take a call on my shell phone. I am so corny but it makes them laugh. No mermaid day would be complete with listening to some of the Little Mermaid soundtrack, it will always be one of our very favorites.

Most of our Mermaid Menu today consisted of yesterdays's snacks recycled. Seaweed (grapes on skewers) A Dolphin in Turtle Eggs (A banana in grapes), fish crackers, shark teeth(sliced white cheddar cheese), starfish shaped sandwiches, Swedish Fish, and our under the sea cupcakes. We added Dinglehoppers(forks) in honor of The Little Mermaid. I found some additional Mermaid printables to download for free http://party.catchmyparty.com/files/birthday/free-mermaid-birthday-party-printables.pdf and Little Mermaid plates and napkins left over from the party.

I was excited about my improvised craft idea today. We had a mermaid jewelry making kit I planned to use but when I opened it, I realized most of it had been used already. I saw a craft on Pinterest where you hole punch out tons of circles use as scales. I remembered I had purchased a bunch of colored circle stickers to color code our moving boxes(major fail on my part because most of the stickers fell off so we just ended up with a ton of boxes with no labels, but back on track) I still had all these stickers and figured the stickers would work for scales. They traced a mermaid tail and spent a great deal of time adding the sticker scales and some glitter glue. After the glitter glue dried, they cut them out. It came out really cute if I must say so! After the afternoon craft I found some printables for them to work on to give me some time work. These are also free on line. https://mamasgeeky.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/The-Little-Mermaid-Activity-Sheets.pdf

We then worked our crystal craft again. We are on day 3 of this craft, it started on Science Saturday. The steps are taking forever, at this rate, this craft might last us into the fall. Some of them looking they are falling apart. I have my fingers crossed that some of the crystals grow!

We were hoping to go swimming but it was still too cold outside, so they once again made an under the sea scene in the living room with our tails, even their American Girl Doll got in on some Mermaid action. We read some Mermaid Stories including our favorite Ariel stories are from the 5 Minute Princess Storybook. We watched a little bit of Little Mermaid 2 which is our favorite Ariel movie.

I sure hope the Evil Ursula (Covid-19) is defeated soon so we can go

up where they walk

up where the run

up where they stay all day in the sun

Wondering free,

wish I could be part of your world.
