I found having something to look forward to and get dressed for each day gave the kids some joy and me a sense of purpose. For those of you that know me, you know I am a little crazy when it comes to dressing up, kids parties, and professional event planning. I know it seems a bit silly giving the gravity of what is going on around us but having ridiculous things to plan keeps me busy and gives me something I can control in a crazy world. So here is my plan: For as long we are housebound, I am going to pick a theme every day. Friday, Saturday, Sunday will be all fun. Monday-Thursday I am going to try to tie it into some kind of lesson. I am not going to buy anything for my themes (except food). I have such a ridiculous amount of costumes, left over party supplies, and crafts and I can think of no better time than to use them up. I will post a summary and photos of each day.
On our first day, I had no idea what to do. Over the years, the girls and I would play Princess School where they would pretend to be a princesses and pretend I was their teacher. I would also pretend that other princesses were at school. So I would tell Sleeping Beauty not to fall asleep in class, ask Ariel to clean up the seaweed, and ask Snow White to stop cleaning. It always made them laugh. So we kicked off our first day of school by all wearing princess costumes. Of course no first day of school would be complete without the obligatory first day of school signs.
