If your kids are like mine, they are missing sports this Saturday. In order to keep things as normal as possible, I have recreated the experience for my family. You too can enjoy a typical sports Saturday by following this simple step-by-step guide. You are welcome! 😊
1) DO not layout anything the night before. The goal here is to make the experience as realistic as possible. 2) DO make sure all of your kids cleats are tied in super tight knots that you will have to untie in the morning. 3) Figure out how early you need to start your first game and how much estimated time you need to get ready, then set your alarm. The next morning, hit the snooze button multiple times. You are going to want to cut your getting ready time in half. You want to feel the rush of getting ready quickly. 4) Hide at least one sock, cleat, or key piece of uniform. You don’t need to really hide it, you can just leave it somewhere out in the open because your family will still find it impossible to locate. Have the entire family run around in a frenzy looking for it. 5) Once dressed, load the entire family and all of the gear into the car and drive around in circles in your neighborhood for several minutes. This will help you recreate the frustration of not being able to find a parking space anywhere near the field. 6) Park as far away from your house as you can, you are now running behind so you will need to quickly gather up all of your gear and sprint awkwardly to your home field carrying everything you packed. 7) For those really hungry for the full experience, pretend to arrive at the wrong field. Then run your gear all the way back to the car and repeat steps 5 & 6. 8) Make sure to leave something really important in the car so one parent will have to walk all the way back for it. Sunscreen or a water bottle will do. If it is cold that morning, you are really going to want to have one of your children remove their jacket and leave it in the backseat for you to fetch later. DO not realize you left one of these key items in the car until the game has started. You will need to miss a key play your child makes while you are hiking back to the car. 9) This next step is really key. Find the muddiest part of your yard, now that is where you are going to want to set up your chair. Next, find the hardest part of the ground and put your umbrella up. You are really going to want to struggle with it for it several minutes only to find out the shade you created is several feet away from where you need it. 10) Once your set up is complete and the game has started, have one of your children ask to go to the bathroom. Then run around in circles for several minutes trying to find the bathroom while your child does the potty dance. 11) Now have your children play the game for a few minutes while watching the action through the camera on your iPhone. 12) For snack, pack several items that your children will refuse to eat and one item for your children to fight over. 13) When packing up make sure to leave something strategic behind so you can look for it next week. 14) Before getting back in the car, make sure all your shoes and gear are completely covered in mud. You are going to want to spend your afternoon cleaning out your car and all the gear.
There now you don’t have to be sad about missing any games this season!
In all seriousness, the girls were thrilled to get into uniforms that only saw two games this season. Having them in uniform and kicking the ball around the yard for a few hours was welcomed healthy fun.
