I have had this day in my back pocket for a while. I was looking for a good excuse to stay in my pajamas all day and not feel guilty about it. We live in So Cal so we never get to experience a "Snow Day." It was supposed to rain so I figured it would be a good day to pull off this theme. I am also planning the inevitable Frozen themed day and we have at least a week of Frozen activities in the cabinet.
The day started with some glorious sleeping in! This was followed by waffles and hot chocolate while listening to some Christmas music, because why not? I was half tempted to go all out and put out a bunch of wintry Christmas decorations but my husband would probably of had my committed. So, I settled for a small tree, one snowman, and some of our winter gear to decorate our hot chocolate bar.
We stayed in our warm PJS and finally finished The Last Jedi. 9 down and only 1 more to go until we finish the entire Star Wars series! Is it wrong that this makes me feel like we accomplished something during this shutdown?
Snow Day crafts were hit and miss. Elise had a Frozen Birthday party three weeks before all of the social distancing guidelines so we were well stocked in Frozen crafts. We started out making snow. It was very simple, you just added the mix and water and it worked better than I thought it would. The snow making itself was fun for the girls especially when they discovered they could make pink and blue snow! The molds however were kind of a bust, they didn't really work at making anything other than a mess and lots of tears.
We also had a Frozen quilt making set in the craft cabinet. We did one of these crafts over Christmas break but we turned them into scarfs. This was the first time we made the whole quilt. We each worked on a section and it took a few hours. The girls felt quite accomplished when it was completed and enjoyed curling up with it together. It was a great family craft.
We capped off the night with some warm soul food for dinner and we built some snowmen out of marshmallows. The looked as bad as they tasted but the kids were happy. We read PD Eastman's book "Snow" to finish the day. PD Eastman's books always melt my heart!
