Welcome to Weather Wednesday!

After a pretty silly theme yesterday, I wanted to pull things back a bit. My girls are really interested in weather and ask a lot of questions about it so I thought they would enjoy this theme. Today started by asking the girls to find an outfit with something weather related on it- sunshine, clouds, rain, etc. No one was surprised to see them both come down dressed like rainbows.

We raided the book cabinet for any books related to weather but the pickings were slim. Fortunately there were a ton of fun crafts and experiments readily available on Pinterest.

Activities of the day:

- We wrote about our favorite kind of weather in our journals this morning.

- We watched the science guy do a video on weather. These quick 20 minute videos are fantastic and they include lesson planning ideas so you feel like you know what you are doing. Link below.

- We reviewed a weather report and then they took turns giving their own report.

- We talked about different kinds of clouds and then made some cloud art. I found the idea using cotton balls on Pinterest, but I didn't have any cotton in the house. Snce my goal is to only use what we have for my theme days, I improvised using stuffing from a leftover craft.

- Made a cloud in a jar experiment. Link at the bottom.

- Went outside to observe clouds and noted which types we observed.

- Created a sun painting craft using construction paper and paper plates. I bet you can make over 100 crafts using just paint and paper plates. For all of the craft supplies I have accumulated over the years you really only need- construction paper, glue, scissors, a good box of crayons, some basic paints and paper plates. If these last weeks have taught me anything it is that kids really don't need much to stay occupied.

- I had them play outside in the sunshine for an hour with the challenge of giving me a full hour to actually get some work done.
