Like all children, my girls love animals. Early in the shut down I stumbled across a list of things to do on a rainy day. One of them was to build an inside zoo using all your stuffed animals. Today was raining yet again, so it was a great day for Wild Animal Wednesday!
First, the girls were delighted to pick out their favorite animal fashions. Cats and pandas are all the rage in our house, so I was surprised to see Elise bust out the flamingo look. Avery went with the ever popular cat lady look. After binge watching Tiger King this week, Steve and I relished in making Carol Baskin references all day. The references went over the kids' heads but we had a few good laughs.

Some wild activities today:
The girls started the night before creating animal decorations. They are now really into helping set up and decorate for all our theme days. We are big fans of Usborne Books and they have a great book on how to draw animals. By the end of the day, Elise had completed everyone of them.
After school, construction began on the Jacobs Zoo/Aquarium. I let them completely take over the living room. This in itself was a treat because other than practicing piano, I don't really let them play in there much. I know this is silly, I thought it was silly as a kid but it is the last clean adult space in the house. Not today! They gathered all of their stuffed animals and went all out. They made enclosures, they made name tags for every animal, they made a ticket booth, they set up feeding stations, and they began offering tours to their sponsors. It kept them busy for hours which gave me some time to work at my desk with zero interruptions.
We enjoyed some wild snacks: Animal Crackers, Cheetah Cheez-its, Safari Sandwiches, Snake Eggs(jelly beans), Elephant Treats(peanuts), and Tiger Tails(carrots). My favorites were the oranges I turned into tigers but then no one wanted to eat them, sigh. There are a so many cute animal snack ideas on Pinterest that I would love to try. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/680395456181478125/
I had planned several crafts and other things for the evening, but they were so busy with the zoo that we only got around to making animal clay creations. We (and by we I mean Elise) forgot to close up the lids on several of the jars last time we used it, so we were limited in colors. Much to my surprise and delight Elise said "I guess we will just have to improvise." Those were words I never thought I would hear that child say. Another positive of this quarantine! They were able to make some owl bookmarks, watch the San Diego live zoo feed, and we closed out our day by reading our National Geographic book on Pandas.
There was also an adorable animal paper plates I wanted to do but we tabled it for another day.
Today was a roaring good time!
